Aadhaar Update Methods

Online and Offline OptionsAadhaar card holders can now conveniently update their information using either online methods or by visiting the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Updates can be made via the official UIDAI website and mobile application.
Expanded Update ScopeUnlike the 2016 rules, which focused primarily on online address updates, the new regulations provide two flexible avenues for updating information in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).
Mobile Number UpdateExperts emphasize that the updated rules impose no restrictions, enabling Aadhaar card holders to update their mobile numbers online.

New Forms for Aadhaar Enrolment and Updates

UIDAI has revamped the forms to enhance clarity and efficiency in the application process. These forms are now tailored for residents and NRIs, categorized by age and address.

Form 1Used for residents and non-residents (with proof of Address in India) aged 18 years and above for Aadhaar enrolment. Also applicable for updating other details for existing Aadhaar card holders.
Form 3Form 3 is designated for the enrollment of children, whether residents or NRIs with an Indian address, who are aged five years and above but less than eighteen years.
Form 5Form 5 is designated for the enrollment or updating of Aadhaar information for resident or Non-Resident Indian (NRI) children, with an Indian address, who are below 5 years of age.
Form 7Form 7 is designated for use by resident foreign nationals aged 18 years and above, seeking to enroll in or update Aadhaar details. For enrollment in this category, documentation such as a foreign passport, OCI card, valid long-term visa, or Indian visa will be required. Additionally, an email ID is mandatory for this process.
Form 8Form 8 is intended for use by resident foreign nationals below the age of 18 years.

Aadhaar Update After 10 Years

Aadhaar number holders are permitted to update documents or information after 10 years from the date of Aadhaar number generation.

Updates can be completed online through the UIDAI website or mobile application, or by submitting a form at the enrolment center.

Aadhaar Document Update

Important Points to Note

Date of Birth on Aadhaar CardIf the age of the individual is declared or approximate, only the year of declared/approximate birth will be printed. Providing documentary proof is necessary for the complete date of birth on the Aadhaar card.
Enrolment and Update MethodsIndividuals can choose between document verification or confirmation by the Head of Family (HoF).

If the HoF confirmation method is used, the HoF must provide their Aadhaar details and sign Form 1.
NRI SpecificsFor NRIs providing a non-Indian mobile number, no SMS/text message will be sent, as per Form 1 guidelines.

Only a valid Indian passport is acceptable as Proof of Identity (POI) for NRIs.
